Green Living

badgerWe’re realising how green many of our neighbours already are! Woodburning stoves, insulated garage doors and other energy saving measures abound. To make suggestions, ask questions or get involved contact info@widcombewest.uk. In the meanwhile, below are some useful resources that can help in taking steps to reduce your energy use – for environmental and energy bill purposes!

  • Centre For Sustainable Energy: See www.cse.org.uk for the latest grants and a wealth of impartial advice on energy efficiency in the Bath area.
  • Energy Efficient Widcombe: EEW is a small group of volunteers (and one Coordinator), which aims to help Widcombe people improve the energy efficiency of their homes and premises. In winter, it provides home thermal imaging surveys for residents who are over 60. Currently it is carrying out energy audits of 4 large community / business premises. Future plans include engaging secondary schools in energy projects. widcombewest residents can easily google Energy Efficient Widcombe, click on “Home Energy Savings Packs”, then select the pack that fits their house type. What you will find could well improve the energy efficiency of your home and save you money!
These packs are presented on the Energy Efficient Widcombe Website and  will help Widcombe residents to identify and plan home energy efficiency improvements – and how to get useful government loans. In preparing the packs, Energy Efficient Widcombe did an in-depth survey of each of the most common “archetypes” of Widcombe homes, including a home in Holloway, which is of a similar build to all the modern homes on the Calton & Holloway estate.
