After a difficult few years it was great to be back together as a community and even the weather gods looked upon us favourably.
Our largest turnout ever with all ages and all roads represented made this the most successful gathering to date. There was music and dancing, great food, amazing cakes, prosecco and of course the legendary never-ending raffle.
Many thanks to all who work quietly behind the scenes to make this happen so seamlessly. What an amazing community!
This year our open gardens event has gone online. Thanks to all our Neighbours who have shared pictures of their lovely gardens for us to enjoy during the lockdown.
Beautiful roses and courtyard with shady front garden – Teresa’s garden on St Marks Road
Keith and Jess’s garden on St Marks Road is a heaven for wild life
Ruth’s Garden in Calton Walk – firstly in spring before everything took off and then later with aliums, geum, fuscia and thrift all vying for space.
Ro’s garden in Holloway – A very mossy lawn with a wide sweep of planting bisected by steps leading to a shady upper patio.
Dave and Moira’s garden in Alton Place – lovely small terraced garden on three levels – patio, lawn and shrubs.
Mary’s garden in Holloway: We’ve planted more beens this year in containers along with lettuce.
Easy to maintain family garden in Calton Gardens – north facing so shady spot for dog on a sunny day.
We had a really great afternoon at St Marks on 8th December when we all came together to celebrate the season. A good turn out for the communal feasting, carol singing and craft making. The ever popular Raffle raised £101 which we will use to keep this group running in 2020 and beyond…
We’re so pleased that so many were able to come to the widcombewest barbecue (Sat 6 July) and make it such a convivial event. A special thank you to the musicians, those who lent barbecues, those who helped set up or clear up, the young people who ran the raffle and all of you who brought food to make such a wonderful spread!
We’re pleased to announce that we raised £57 from the raffle and this will be added to the widcombewest fundraising pot. Later in the year, we hope to find a local improvement project to spend funds raised at recent events.
The Widcombe West Open Garden event on 23rd May 2019 was a huge success and we want to thank everyone who helped to make it such an enjoyable evening. From those who opened their gardens to those who gave plants for the plant stall, who donated wine, who helped us clear up at the end and generally all who came along and entered into the positive spirit of the evening – a big thank you!
We hope you enjoyed meeting some new neighbours and old friends. And perhaps you’ve been inspired to open your garden next year?
To top it all we made just over £100 to put towards future community activities and events – thank you for your generosity!
